As if Randy Jonhston's death wasn't enough, the fashion industry has suffered another great loss this week.

As learned on ModelResource.ca, Canadian fashion photographer Hamish Kippen has passed away Monday evening. Based in Toronto, twenty-one-year-old Kippen was a great source of inspiration and was also promised to a brilliant future.

My condoleances go out to his family, friends and collegues.

"Under unknown circumstances, Ford model Randy Johnston passed away October 11. The 20 year-old from Connecticut is currently being memorialized on Ford's web site, and his resume was highlighted by a turn as Dior Homme campaign model under Hedi Slimane for Fall 2007. He also appears in the November 2008 issue of i-D with Lara Stone. May he rest in peace."

THE PERFECT BLACK SMOKEY EYE

Throughout the seasons for the last few decades, the black smokey has been one of the most consistent eye makeup on the runway. Its boldness creates a lot of character and gives the eyes a very intriguing sultry look while keeping a classic and timeless feel. As a makeup artist, I get to create this look quite often and have come up with a simple, fast and efficient technique that requires a minimum of products & tools. Here it is from me to you: a tutorial for the perfect black smokey eye!

First here's what you'll need in order to complete the look.

PRODUCTS:

TOOLS

Face Atelier brush #12 Smudge
NARS Eye Shader Brush 03
Lise Watier Metamorfix (a little dab of water works just fine too!)

STEP BY STEP

1. The secrect to keep your eye makeup from smudging or fading away is to apply an eyeshadow primer. Most eyeshadow primers have a very subtle creamy texture which makes the powder and pigment of eyeshadows stick to it.

In this case, we apply MAC Shadestick in Beige-ing. It's an awesome pick as it is a nude color and you can use it as your main eyeshadow primer for any look you want to do! It comes as a pencil so directly apply a light coat on your eyelid up to the browbone.

2. For a true black smokey eye, go for an eyeshadow that has a matte finish. They are harder to work with as they tend to leave powder fallouts on cheeks but here's a simple trick that will get rid of that and also make the black look darker.

The Face Atelier brush #12 Smudge brush has very short but dense hair and is used for precise tasks as a stroke covers a small surface. Dip it into a drop of Lise Watier Metamorfix (or water!). The hair has to be wet but NOT soaked. Rub it into your MakeUpForEver Matte eyeshadow in Black Matte #004 eyshadow and apply it to your mobile eyelid. The mobile eyelid starts at the base of your upper lashes and ends where the crease is. Do one eye at a time and keep it closed until the eyeshadow dries. The color has to look solid but don't worry about the rough edges - we'll fix this in the next step. Using this method with the same brush, draw a thick line along your bottom lashline.

3. One of my all-time favorite & most used brush is the blending brush. It's with this little gem that we'll make your smokey eye look airbrushed. This is a crucial step that requires a little practice but will pay off in amazing results!

With the help of your NARS Eye Shader Brush 03, we'll focus on blending those edges left from applying the wet eyeshadow. Don't pick up any product with the brush. Start out at the inner corner of your eye and blend the eyeshadow by moving in towards the outter end in gentle circular motions until the harsh line fades. Do this for both of your eyes.

If you wish, you can also apply a highlighter to your browbone. It is facultative but gives a little light reflection which can be interesting. Clean the Shader Brush with a brush cleanser and make sure it's dry before using. Apply MAC Shroom or Nylon eyeshadow with it over your browbone - the part right under your eyebrow - down to where the black starts to fade and blend it in!

4. Grab your MAC Smolder Eye Khol and line along the base of your upper lashes and waterline. The waterline can be tricky if you wear contact lenses or have sensitive eyes - be careful! I highly recommend to use a eyelash curler as it opens the eye but if you dont, skip this step and apply two or three generous coats of L'Oréal Telescopic Mascara in Carbon Black.

Also as a final touch don't forget to fill in your eyebrows for a more polished look.

There you go! You can follow the same steps but with a different eyeshadow color to get a colorful smokey or use a white eyeliner on your waterline to make your eyes pop! So many ways to personalize this look - all yours to find out!

CHLOE FALL 2008

The last days of summer are here and I'm secretely wishing we were fall already. I love knits and chiffon, wearing opaque stockings in high heels, the rosy cheeks & cold fingers, reading a magazine with a coffee...

One of my favorite fall 2008 collection was at Chloé. Dominant shades of indigo & black supported by hints of bright blue, yellow and purple make the whole line a dream for dark romantics like me. Fall is also the perfect season to wear your deeper shades of makeup you've been putting aside all summer long. Here are a few of my favorite outfits at Chloé and makeup tips to get the look!

These shoes are a dream! I had to include a closeup to show how detailed they are. The last flowers and leaves you'll see before snowflakes fall from the sky!

GET THE LOOK

Luminous skin and burgundy lips, a perfect combo for fall! Here are the steps to get a Chloé look!

Start with a clean moisturized face by using Complex 15 Moisturizing Lotion. Use a little concealer under the eyes if needed and try to go for a liquid or creamy foundation with a smooth sheer finish like MAC Body & Face rather than a matte one. Complete the face by applying with your finger a little touch of BeneFit High Beam on the apple of your cheeks up to where your eyebrows end. This will give you a lasting glow throughout the day!

This look revolves around the lips so keep the eyes simple. If you have sparse eyebrows, use Smashbox BrowTech to fill them in lightly. The lashes look very natural so try Maybelline Great Lash Washable Mascara in Dark Brown.

On to the pièce de résistance: the lips! Always use a lipliner with bold lip shades. They will hold the color much longer and it will help prevent smudges. With BeneFit Silk Lip Pencil in Tootsie, define the outline of your lips and use the blending sponge at the other side of the pencil to blend the line in to make it look softer. Apply MAC Underworld Lipstick with Sephora Rectractable Lip Brush #60.

I'm a big fashion nerd and one of the things I love doing is to visit modeling agencies websites to see who is going to be the next big thing! Scouts are hired to find fresh new faces that will possibly take the world over!

Jacqueline Campeau @ Giovanni Model Management, 14 years old - 5'10"

The first time I saw Jacqueline was through the V magazine Supreme Management model search. Recentely got signed with Giovanni Models in Canada, I'm guessing they have high hopes in her as her portfolio is getting fuller by the day. She has a femme fatale look with a beautiful naive and playful vibe. I'm looking forward to see her doing editorial work in my favorite magazines!

Doriane @ Giovanni Model Management, 5'9½"

I love this girl! Okay, it's true - I have a weakness for dark-haired girls but Doriane really caught my eye the first time I saw her "polaroïds" (which aren't really polaroïds by the way!). As learned on ModelResource.ca, Doriane got signed with 1 Management. Way to go! I want to see more!

Marine @ Montage Models, 16 years old - 5'7"

My beautiful Marine! She started out about a year ago or so and she's quickly becoming a photographer's favorite. I have worked with her two times and I can honestly say that she's one of the most professional model I've had the pleasure to work with. Despite her small height, Marine has an incredible charisma that makes up for every inch she would need in order to succeed!

BURBERRY

LOVE IT! Loads of cardigans, knee-length dresses and a few gorgeous jackets. The colors & fabrics picked give a bit of an edge to these beautifully tailored clothes.

BRIAN REYES

Romantic and dreamy. Loose silky fabrics and soft cuts. There are a few gowns and short dresses too that are definitely worth looking up. Invest in a nice belt - the high waisted one is in full force for many resort collections.

HELMUT LANG

What I love about this Helmut Lang collection is that you can come up with similar looks by shopping at GAP and H&M. Those plain and simple designs are offered in four dominant shades: white, black, grey and navy blue. While the clothes don't possess great eye-cathing details, they definitely make a bold statement once worn with a high pair of heels.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA

Luxurious and sophisticated. Oscar, PLEASE make me look fab too. I am this close to sell one of my kidneys to afford one of these beautiful gowns or a pair of these high-waisted pants. The handbags and jewellery are to die for. Definitely one of my favorite so far at Resort.

STELLA MCCARTNEY

I have tried to hate Stella McCartney but I can't. Everything looks soooo comfortable, playful, young and fresh with a classy touch.

Welcome to my fashion/beauty blog!

Yesterday I noticed that Zink magazine launched a second "Canada" issue and who's on the cover? The beautiful Tasha Tilberg whom I can't say no to so I bought it.

I realized there was a two-page article on my all-time favorite Montreal designer - Renata Morales. I sometimes work on photoshoots with a wardrobe stylist that used to work for Morales and I was always looking forward to our shoots knowing I'd see her new creations. Renata talks about her background as painter and how she somehow got into the fashion industry. The text comes with 3-4 pictures from her 2008 Spring/Summer collection which is absolutely gorgeous and - in my opinion - by far the best she made to this day.
